Vince Ream serves as the founder and Creative Director of Electric Sheep, where he’s fostered an environment that prioritizes artistry over corporate thinking. What started as a fledgling operation ran out of his small apartment has grown into a collective of independently-thinking creatives with the support and resources to pursue their own personal endeavors as well as paid professional gigs.
Ream’s parents encouraged in him a love of independent cinema at an early age. “[My father] was always trying to get me into the art side of film.” As a self-described former “angry little film student kid,” Ream studied experimental film at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee, where he was exposed to the work of film collagist Stanley Brakhage and others. He initially left school with the impression that he would go into film editing. It was in animation, however, that he found his calling in life.
His passion for visual storytelling was the perfect marriage to his technical know-how. “It was the first time in my life that me interacting with information learning…really clicked with me.” Now, in addition to supporting the roster of Electric Sheep, he works in editing, compositing, 3-D graphics, and (naturally) animation.
Over the years, Ream has worked for clients like Microsoft, on music videos for Erykah Badu and Flying Lotus.
